Our Chairman

A Word from the Chairman of the Amirim Foundation – Salman Amar

When we first founded the Amirim non-profit organization we, the family of Amir Hussein of blessed memory, our brother and mentor, saw before our very eyes his noble spirit, his love for his fellow man whoever he may be, his appreciation for nature, love for his country and especially his pride in the Druze community in all its colors.

In the short time that he was with us, Hussein managed to leave behind a long trail of people from all the various sectors, the different ethnic groups and religions, who were influenced by his character, his courage, his curiosity and the understanding of life with which he was endowed.

We knew him as such, yet his falling in battle and the flow of visitors that we were exposed to after his death made clear to us that his modesty did not enable us to know in depth the abundance of his qualities.

Amirim was established with the goal to enhance, to prove that with support and especially with human will, it is possible to change every detail of our lives, to overcome every thought barrier, just as Hussein believed, nothing can stand in the way of will.

Today Amirim is active in the domains of social improvement and education, in the schools and in the kindergartens, in the universities and colleges and most important of all, among all citizens of this country, Druze, Jews, Moslems, Christians, Bedouins, women, men, youth and the elderly. We are all struggling together with the gaps in education, with road accidents that don't distinguish between social classes and ethnic groups, with the awful drug problem and with the prevailing social gaps in Israeli society.

Over the years we provided financial and moral support for social issues which have not made a great impact in the media. The prevailing attitude towards mental illness is one of them. Our brother Hussein treated all his fellow men with respect, and more than anything knew how to share and provide assistance to the disadvantaged, to those who were not smiled upon by fate. We hope to continue to honor his legacy.

Hussein did not limit his respect to people, he also respected the environment and was concerned with protecting animal and plant life, and safeguarding the balance between man and nature. Of late we have been working on a number of education programs aimed at one objective – preserving this country's natural treasures.

Until now, over the duration of Amirim's years of activity, we have been assisted by self-finance and many volunteers, who help us provide leadership and operate dozens of programs all over the country.  I believe that the path of Amirim, especially if we continue and reach every Israeli citizen, will bring peace, prosperity, mutual respect and social well-being for all citizens of the State of Israel.
